Dublin Traffic Chaos

A Luas tram and a bus have collided on O'Connell Street in Dublin bringing traffic gridlock as the emergency services work to free at least one person is trapped in the Luas tram. It is understood a number of people have been injured in addition to those trapped. As a result of the incident, Luas Red Line services are only operating between Tallaght and Smithfield. O'Connell Street northbound is closed as a result of the crash and the right lane is also blocked southbound.

Man Held After Cigarette Seizure

Gardaí in Co Westmeath have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the seizure of an undisclosed quantity of cigarettes near Mullingar yesterday. The cigarettes were found when officers stopped and searched a van on the N4 just after 5.30pm. Investigations are being carried out to determine if the cigarettes are counterfeit. Gardai say they had an estimated value of around €100,000.

Man Arrested Over Waterford Death

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Waterford city this morning. A 30-year-old woman was discovered in a house in Richardsons Meadows, Kilcohan, shortly after 2.30am. The woman was taken by ambulance to Waterford Regional Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and is being held at Waterford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, where he can be detained for up to 24 hours. The scene of the incident has been preserved for technical examination and State Pathologist has been notified.

Vigilantes Threaten Cork Drug

Gardaí are reportedly investigating attempts by republican vigilantes to intimidate suspected drug dealers in Cork. Reports this morning say a number of men wearing dark clothes distributed leaflets in pubs last Friday saying they had drawn up a list of drug dealers and would kill them if they did not stop their activities. The leaflets were distributed in Passage West, Rochestown, Ballyphehane and Togher. This morning's reports say the men distributing the leaflets were linked to the 32 County Sovereignty Movement.

Man Sought

Gardaí in Crumlin are seeking the public's assistance in discovering the whereabouts of a 47-year-old man known as Velerius Poppovas - which may be an alias. He was last seen at his address at Ballymount Road Lower, Walkinstown, Dublin 12 on 18th March 2009. He is described as being 5'5", of strong build with grey hair, blue eyes and a dark moustache. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crumlin Garda Station on 01 - 6666200.

Man Arrested Over Waterford Drug Find
Gardaí in Waterford have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the discovery of cannabis herb worth an estimated €110,000. The drugs were uncovered during a search of an apartment in Penrose Court, Penrose Lane, on Tuesday evening. Gardaí say that the man is being held at Waterford Garda Station.

Man Arrested Over €400,000 Cannabis Find
Cannabis with an estimated value of €400,000 has been seized in Co Donegal. Members of the Revenue and Gardaí uncovered the drugs during a search at Castlefin on Tuesday. Garda arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the find.

Man Arrested Following Drugs Find
Drugs with an estimated street value of €170,000 have been seized by gardai during a raid on a property in west Dublin. Cocaine and cannabis was found during the raid at a house in Balgaddy. A gun and ammunition were also discovered. A 37-year=old has been arrested and is being detained at Ronanstown Garda Station.

Waterford Hit By Weekend Brawls
Rural Waterford is being plagued by street brawls with the latest seeing a young man treated for facial injuries at Cork University Hospital. A female was punched in the face and a number of people were arrested for public order offences as the city experienced one of its blackest weekends to date.

Missing Cork Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A missing 52-year-old man from Cork has been found 'safe and well', garda have reported. John Ryan was last seen in the Shanakiel area of Cork City on Wednesday, 24 May. However, Mr Ryan has now been located and no further action is required.
