JOB TITLE: Design Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Composites
RESPONSIBLE TO: Design Team Manager
JOB PUPPOSE:
The job holder will be responsible for the design, modelling and drafting (working knowledge of GD&T required) of all composite piece parts and assemblies. Use of FibreSim to determine ply geometry for all composite components.
PRIME RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and create 2D and 3D Parametric Models, and associated drawings, using the master model approach in Unigraphics (NX5) to meet and exceed the design specifications for the product
Maximise DFM/DFA opportunities during the design process to meet and exceed overall program deliverables including cost, weight, quality and performance in all new composite products
Assist with and implement design improvements in the design process in line with the continuous improvement culture within the team
Interrogate Finite Element Models and implement improvements within the design based on such
Ensure deliverables are met and compliance is achieved with all gate reviews
Support production with the introduction of new products and launch issues
Develop and ensure the accuracy of engineering Bill of Materials (BoMs)
Build effective relationships with internal and external customers

ESSENTIAL EXPERENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Experience of top down 3D parametric modelling within Unigraphics (NX5)
Drafting experience and working knowledge of GD&T
Expereince of ply development using FibreSim
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Experience in designing composite structures and the various associated manufacturing techniques
Relevant experience in the creation and optimisation of design related procedures
Experience in developing and structuring Bill of Materials (BoMs)
Experience in DFM and DFA
