| there has been a warm welcome for news that a major multi-million dollar feature film will be made in northern ireland this summer.
ni executive first minister peter robinson (pictured) and the deputy first minister martin mcguinness announced that universal pictures will shoot the film.
the film, your highness, will be shot entirely in northern ireland's own studio facility, the paint hall, in belfast's titanic quarter.
it is expected that the filming of your highness on location in belfast, could infuse as much as £10m into the economy, employing hundreds of cast, crew and extras from northern ireland.

| a draft regeneration framework for the northside area of belfast city centre has been launched by northern ireland minister for social development, margaret ritchie.
she said that the framework has the potential to deliver clear benefits, including over 800 residential units, 20% of which will be affordable and social housing, and 1,700 jobs in the office, retail, leisure, restaurant and education sectors.

| a new report published today has revealed that the number of dangerous sex offenders living in northern ireland has increased by 15%, bringing the total living in the province to almost 700.
the report also stated that the greatest number of known paedophiles are based in north and south belfast, with around ten being hunted by police at any given time for failing to notify the authorities of their new living arrangements.
approximately 620 offenders are subject to notification requirement.

well before my time there was the harp bar, which back in the day hosted some of the best in belfast punk. sugar, david holmes club in the art college, introduced many dance music virgins to the genre that would dominate the nineties. more recently vicos took up the torch, bringing the people what they wanted over four floors of mayhem. the place may have been a fire regulations-breaching death trap, but every friday and saturday it was packed to capacity, and its legend is such that rumours persist that it'll reopen "soon".
