| eleven housing areas across northern ireland have been unveiled as the latest participants in a major £1m initiative designed to support and encourage shared neighbourhoods.
the project was launched by denis rooney, chairman of the international fund for ireland and social development minister margaret ritchie last august.
funded by the international fund for ireland and managed by the housing executive, shared future housing is a key plank in minister ritchie's new housing agenda and this programme will complement that agenda.
all of the participants are already working towards becoming genuinely shared spaces.

| there are to be high level talks at stormont castle this afternoon to discuss the recent racist attacks on belfast's romanian community.
first minister peter robinson and the deputy first minister martin mcguinness, are due to hold a summit with the romanian ambassador to the uk, dr ion jinga.
he will arrive in belfast this afternoon, and will attend along with the romanian consul general, dr mihai delcea,
the meeting will discuss possible measures to alleviate the current situation.

| the princess royal has now left northern ireland after a series of engagements.
during a one-day visit on wednesday, princess anne was at w5 in belfast's odyssey complex where she was guest of honour at an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of women into science and engineering campaign.
this campaign aims to encourage girls of school age to continue studying maths and science, and to go into related careers such as engineering and construction.
over 120 invited guests, including around 70 brownies from across northern ireland, welcomed the princess royal to the event.

within days of parts of a large bomb - containing 100 lbs of fertiliser - being recovered from a field in co fermanagh - where two psni officers escaped injury after the device failed to detonate properly last june, some 40 members of the ruc george cross foundation have attended a special dedication ceremony.

| a wood-fired, combined heat and power plant which has the potential to generate electricity and provide heating to several of north down's public buildings has just received a boost.
ni enterprise minister, arlene foster has announced funding totalling £1.088 million, to enable north down borough council to build the renewable energy facility.
among other things, it is planned to power the new leisure and aquatics centre, which, when completed, will house northern ireland's first 50m swimming pool.

| house fire probed
the police are appealing for information after a house in south belfast was damaged by a fire on tuesday night. they said that the blaze was started in a downstairs room and also at the back of the house on jerusalem street in the 'holy lands' area. damage was caused to a front room. no-one was in the house at the time. police are still investigating the cause of the fire. they want anyone who saw anything suspicious between 8pm and 8.30pm bst to contact them.

the police have confirmed that three males are currently assisting with their inquiries following a petrol bomb attack in limavady. they were arrested after an incident which occurred at a property in the anderson park area of the roe valley town at approximately 3am on friday. a woman, believed to be in her 40s, who was in the house at the time escaped uninjured. the device caused scorch damage to an external wall and front living room window.

antrim crown court has today been told how a co antrim woman found murdered in ballymena had been strangled. the revelation came as a man went on trial accusing of murdering shirley finlay, 24, whose partially-clothed body was discovered wrapped in a duvet and bound with bin bags in a car park in september 2006. henryk gorski, 51, of hill street in ballymena, but originally from poland, denies murdering ms finlay between 17 september 2006 and 20 september 2006.

| acclaimed actress julie walters will play former northern ireland secretary of state mo mowlam (pictured) in a one-off channel 4 drama, to be filmed this summer.
the film will focus on the late politician's contribution to the province's peace process and highlight her time in tony blair's new labour government.
ms mowlam was a key player in forming the 1998 good friday agreement during her two year tenure at hillsborough castle.

| a court has today found a man guilty of stabbing two teenage friends to death, in a double murder that shocked northern ireland nine years ago.
the co armagh killings left david mcilwaine - who was just 18 - and andrew robb, 19, dead after leaving a disco in february 2000. the victims' bodies were dumped near tandragee.
today, steven leslie brown, also known as steven revels, 28, of castle place, castlecaulfield, was convicted of the brutal killings, despite having denied involvement.
