18/07/2008BELFAST TAXI FARE INCREASES: COSTS STILL LOWER THAN UK
while public taxi fares in belfast are due to rise next month, the costs are still lower than other comparable cities in the uk. the driver & vehicle agency (dva) confirmed there would be an increase of between 13% and 19% depending on the time of travel. this increase will come into operation on 1 august 2008. however, despite the increase, the fares in belfast remain below those of comparable cities throughout the united kingdom. there is also no evidence to suggest that capital of running costs are lower in northern ireland than elsewhere in great britain. dva chief executive, brendan magee said: "these increases will mean operators and drivers can recoup costs and ensure vehicles can be properly maintained and periodically upgraded. ...
