Couple Bailed Over Girl's Hanging

The mother and stepfather of an eight-year-old girl who was found hanged in her bedroom at her home in Nottinghamshire have been released on bail, following their arrest in connection with her death.

Simon Moody, 32 and his wife Susan, 24, had been interviewed under caution by police over the death of Charlotte Avenall. They have been released pending further police inquiries.

Charlotte was found hanged in her bedroom at the family home in Moor Street, Mansfield on September 12.

The child, who had severe learning disabilities, had been known to social services from birth. Nottinghamshire County Council have confirmed that they will be reviewing the care and support that was offered to Charlotte and her family.

A post mortem conducted at Leicester Royal Infirmary confirmed that the girl's death was caused by hanging.

Woman Raped In Car Park Of John Lewis Store
A woman has been dragged from her vehicle and raped in a car park in Manchester, police have said. The victim, who is in her late 20s, was parked in a John Lewis car park on 28 August in Cheadle, Stockport. At approximately 7pm, a man opened the door to the car, dragged the woman into some nearby bushes and raped her.

Hampshire Girl Died From Hanging
Police investigating the disappearance of Hampshire teenager have confirmed that a body found in the New Forest is that of Rosemary Edwards. Walkers near Bartley found the body of the 15-year-old on Sunday. Police said that early indications suggested that the death was not suspicious.

Arnis Zalkalns Death 'Consistent With Hanging'
A post-mortem examination has found that the death of Arnis Zalkalns was "consistent with hanging", and that there was "no evidence of any third party involvement". Police confirmed that Mr Zalkalns' body had been discovered in dense woodland in Boston Manor Park, west London, on Saturday.

'No indication' of Shipman suicide, widow tells inquiry
The widow of serial killer Harold Shipman has told an inquiry into his death that he gave no indication of an intention to commit suicide. Primrose Shipman told the inquiry, which opened at Leeds Crown Court today, that she asked her husband if he was suicidal during a conversation while he was being held in HMP Manchester in 1999.

Baby Girl Dies In Dog Attack
An 11-month-old baby has died after being mauled by a pet dog, police in Lancashire have said. The baby girl, from Emily Street in Blackburn, died in hospital at about 23:00 on Monday. Police have arrested a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of child neglect in connection with the incident.
