Teenager Sentenced Over Young Footballer Stabbing

A 14-year-old boy who accidentally stabbed a young footballer in the neck during a row has been detained for six years.

The teenager had pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Jahmal Mason-Blair, 17 at the Old Bailey earlier this month.

The court heard how Jahmal was stabbed as he attempted to intervene in a row between the teenager, who was 13 at the time, and an older boy in Hackney in May this year.

He was wounded in the neck, severing an artery, when the teenager began to wave a flick-knife in an attempt to frighten the older boy.

Jahmal had been a promising young footballer who played for Borehamwood Football Club and had had trials with Tottenham Hotspur, Watford and Reading.
