Peaches Wins Libel Damages
Socialite Peaches Geldof has won a 'substantial' pay-out after a newspaper wrongly accused her of working as a prostitute.
The daughter of political campaigner and musician, Sir Bob, took action against the Daily Star after its front page claim was published.
Ms Geldof won undisclosed damages, when the paper agreed there was "no truth in the allegation".
Defence solicitor Zoe Norden said the paper apologised to the claimant "for any distress caused".
Ms Geldof originally took the case to the Press Complaints Commission, an independent body with no legal powers.
However, her solicitor Jonathan Coad said the Daily Star had refused to publish a retraction and apology on its front page but instead published it on page two.
"As the publication was substantially smaller, the claimant considered this to be unacceptable as it was not, in her view, adequately prominent," Mr Coad told Mr Justice Eady.
"The Press Complaints Commission adjudicated upon the prominence and found it to be proportionate.
"It is for this reason that the claimant now wishes to make this statement in open court to make the falsity of this allegation a matter of public record."

Heroin 'Likely' In Peaches Geldof Death
An inquest has revealed that heroin is "likely" to have played a role in the death of Peaches Geldof. Ms Geldof, 25, was found dead at her home in Kent last month (7 April). At the time, officers said they were treating her death as "non-suspicious, unexplained and sudden". A post-mortem was carried out, but the results proved inconclusive.
