Jobs Could Be At Risk From British Airways and BMI Deal
Up to 1,200 jobs could be at risk from a deal by British Airways owner IAG to buy the BMI airline from Lufthansa.
The £172.5m deal was announced in December and the European Commission granted regulatory approval on 30 March.
The announcement of potential risk to jobs came as BA start consultations with unions on plans to integrate BMI into its operations.
The deal is expected to take effect on 20 April and will result in IAG, which also owns Spain's Iberia, gaining 56 more slots at Heathrow airport as part of the deal.
BMI currently employs more than 3,600 staff, but reported a £153m loss in the year to 2010.

Lufthansa To Sell BMI
International Airlines Group (IAG) and Lufthansa have today reached an agreement in principle for the sale of British Midland Ltd (BMI) to IAG. No details were given, however the deal does require regulatory approval and is expected to be signed in the coming weeks. BMI has it's main hub at London's Heathrow airport, as does British Airways.
