Couple Sentenced For £10m Majorca Ponzi fraud

A couple have been jailed for fraud after they fooled British ex-pats out of £10m in a Ponzi investment scheme.

John and Linda Hirst splashed out on holidays and wedding celebrations using the proceeds of the scheme.

John Hirst was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court to nine years while his wife faces two-and-a-half years in jail for money laundering.

Canoe Death Fake Arrested Over Breach Of Licence
A man jailed for faking his own death in an insurance fraud scheme has been arrested for breaching the terms of his releases. 63-year-old John Darwin was jailed for six years in 2008 after he was convicted of faking his own death in a canoe accident. In 2011, after serving half of his sentence, Darwin was released on licence.

Life For Shop Manager's Murderer
An east London teenager has been jailed for a minimum of 20 years for the murder of a Hackney shop manager. Kobina Essel, 19, murdered Matalan worker Jamie Simpson on 22 April 2008. Essel was jailed along with three other males, who were convicted of manslaughter. Anthony Maina, 20, of no fixed address was jailed for six years.

Man Jailed For Giving Wife Overdose Of Morphine
A 53-year-old man has been jailed for administering an overdose of prescription drugs to his wife, to give himself a day of respite. Stephen Hirst acted as full-time carer for his wife for the five years they were married.
