Premier Foods To Shut Down Two Bakery Sites
Premier Foods has announced it will be closing two bakery sites which will result in axing 900 jobs.
The firm, which makes Hovis, said its sites in Greenford and Birmingham will be closing some time next year, in addition to the previously announced closure of the Eastleigh bakery.
Commenting on the proposals, Michael Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of Premier Foods said: "Having generated solid growth momentum in our Grocery Division, it is critical that we act to assure the long-term future of the Bread Division. By simplifying our cost base, we can increase focus on improving efficiency, quality and service levels to help grow our core Hovis business. We recognise the impact these actions will have for our employees at the sites affected. Decisions will not be taken lightly but they are necessary if we are to build a strong and successful future for the Bread Division and those who remain with our business."
Appropriate consultations with employees affected by the proposals and their representatives will commence in the coming days.

Two US soldiers killed and several injured in ambushes
Two US soldiers have been killed and several others wounded in two separate attacks on Coalition troops in Iraq yesterday. In one incident, about 40 miles northeast of the city of Balad, northern Iraq, two US troops were killed and another was wounded when their tank was destroyed.

The government has announced a new scheme to protect cultural sites from "the destructive forces of war and ISIL terrorists" Culture Secretary John Whittingdale has announced. The £3m Iraqi Emergency Heritage Management Project – which will be run by the British Museum over five years – was launched today at a cultural summit in central London.

Cuadrilla Resources has announced the proposed locations for two new exploration sites in the Fylde, Lancashire. The company intends to apply for planning permission to drill, hydraulically fracture and test the flow of gas from up to four exploration wells on each of the sites, one at Roseacre Wood and the other at Preston New Road.
