Met Officer Arrested In Operation Elveden Investigation

A serving police officer has been arrested in connection with allegations of illegal payments made by by journalists to public officials.

The 50-year-old Metropolitan Police officer was arrested at his home in the Wimbledon area of London at 06:00 on Tuesday morning.

It is understood the man serves with the Territorial Policing command in south London and he is being questioned over alleged misconduct in a public office.

Some 60 people have now been arrested as part of Operation Elveden, which is being run alongside two other police investigations.

Operation Weeting is an inquiry into alleged phone hacking, while Operation Tuleta is an investigation into computer hacking and other privacy breaches.

A former police officer has admitted to selling information to the newspaper The Sun. According to the BBC, 30-year-old James Bowes is now facing jail after he pleaded guilty to one count of misconduct in public office. Mr Bowes was a police sergeant on the Sussex Police neighbourhood policing team.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the rape of 12-year-old girl in east London. Three males lead the girl to a "secluded" end of a street in Walthamstow at around 00:15 on Saturday before two of them attacked her, held her down and raped her.

A former police officer has been jailed for committing misconduct in public office over a period of more than 10 years. Simon Quinn, 43, of Horsham, West Sussex was arrested in April 2013, under Operation Elveden.

Prison Officer Arrested In Operation Elveden
Officers from the Operation Elveden investigation have arrested a serving prison officer. The 40-year-old man was arrested at 8.30am on Monday in Sittingbourne, Kent, on suspicion of conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office. This is the 58th arrest by the Met's inquiry into payments from journalists to police and public officials.

Former NHS Staff Arrested In Connection To Operation Elveden
Police investigating inappropriate payments from journalists have arrested two former NHS workers. A 46-year-old man, and 42-year-old woman were arrested at an address in Bridgwater, Somerset, this morning (Thursday) on suspicion of corruption and of conspiracy to cause misconduct in public office.
