Seven holidaymakers die in motorway smash

Seven people have died and two left seriously injured after a road smash on a stretch of motorway near Manchester this morning.

A minibus carrying 14 holidaymakers was involved in an accident involving three cars on the M56 motorway at around 5.45am.

All the deaths - four men and three women – were passengers on the minibus, which had been travelling to Manchester airport at the time.

A woman and a teenager girl are being treated for serious injuries, and six other people were suffering minor injuries – three of whom have since been released from hospital.

Tanker driver dies as his vehicle veers off flyover
A man has died after the tanker he was driving plunged 20 feet from a motorway flyover near Manchester earlier this morning. The driver has not yet been named. Two cars and a lorry were also involved in the smash but initial reports suggest that there were only minor injuries.

Murder investigation launched in Manchester
Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the bodies of a mother and her three children aged between 5 and 11 at a house in Greater Manchester. A fifth person living at the address, 36-year old Rahan Arshad, who is believed to have been missing for four weeks, is being sought by police.

Man Arrested Over Kieran McGrath Murder
Detectives investigating the death of a man outside a police station in Greater Manchester have arrested three men. Kieran McGrath, 26, was shot outside the Sheldon Arms pub on 04 October last year. He then drove himself to Ashton-under-Lyne police station and collapsed outside its door. He died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Rooney assault claims dropped
The man who accused footballer Wayne Rooney of assault has dropped his claim, it has been reported. Patrick Hanrahan, a 22-year-old student from Eaglescliffe, Middlesborough, accused the England and Manchester United striker of attacking him in the Tiger Tiger nightclub in Manchester.
