Chief Inspector Of Probation Services Resigns

Paul McDowell has resigned as chief inspector of the probation service over a "potential perceived conflict of interest".

Mr McDowell is leaving the role due to his wife's position as a senior manager at Sodexo, which recently took over the management of a number of probation contracts.

Announcing his resignation, Mr McDowell said that it was "imperative that any inspectorate is independent and seen to be so".

Mr McDowell had been in the role since February 2014.
