Man Who Died White Lackington Road Crash Named

The man who died following a road traffic collision in White Lackington has been named.

Gary Powell, aged 27, from Chard, died following the collision at about 9.40pm on 4th April on the unclassified road, near to Back Lane.

His family have issued the following tribute: "Gary was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend and recently father to his four week old baby girl. He will be greatly missed by those he has left behind.

"We will never forget you. You will be forever in our hearts."

Mr Powell was driving a Ford Focus which was in collision with a Ford Mondeo, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Despite receiving treatment, Mr Powell died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle suffered a fractured pelvis and a broken leg.

Investigation Launches Following Armed Robbery In Basildon

Essex police have launched an investigation following an armed robbery at a newsagents in Basildon.

A man armed with a knife demanded money from the cashier at Martin newsagents in Whitmore Way.

A male member of staff opened the till and the man fled with a three-figure sum of money.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 9in to 6ft 2in tall and of slim build. He was wearing a light grey hooded sweatshirt, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms, dark gloves and a dark scarf which was covering the bottom half of his face.

Handbag Snatched From Woman In Blackpool

Police are appealing for information after a woman had her handbag snatched in Blackpool.

The incident happened shortly before 12pm on Tuesday 7th April when a 57 year old woman was walking along Warley Road heading towards Devonshire Road. As she walked past Mexford Road, she realised a man was walking closely behind her. She stopped and waited for him to pass but as she did she felt her handbag slipping from her hand. When she turned around, she saw the man running away before getting into a black 4x4 vehicle that had pulled up at around the same time.

The offender is described as a white male, aged in his thirties, medium build and approximately between 5ft10in and 6ft tall. He was wearing a black cap, a bright red long sleeved top or jacket and black trousers or jeans.

Six Arrested Over Nottingham Street Brawl Death
Police investigating the death of a 19-year-old man in Nottingham have arrested six people. Joshua Bradley, of Bulwell, died following a suspected street fight in Thurland Street, on 08 February. Two men, aged 21 and 19, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Body found in Bristol river
A body has been found floating in the River Avon in Bristol, police have confirmed. Police were called to the Hotwell Road area of Bristol on Wednesday afternoon following reports that a body had been spotted in the water by ferry workers.
