Rolls-Royce Win £6.1bn Contract

Rolls-Royce has won a contract worth £6.1bn to supply engines for Emirates A380 planes.

It is understood that the order is the company's largest to date, and marks the first time Rolls-Royce has made engines for the Gulf carrier's super-jumbo fleet.

Announcing the deal in London, Emirates president, Sir Tim Clark, said: "Today's announcement is significant not only because it cements the partnership between Emirates and Rolls-Royce, but also because of the significant economic impact that this will have on aviation manufacturing in the UK and Europe."

Man Arrested After Getting Trapped In Recycling Bin

A man has been arrested on suspicion of theft after firefighters had to cut him free from a recycling bin. It is understood the man was found trapped inside the clothes bin at St Stephen's Centre around 5am on Friday morning.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the man was not injured.

Man Injured In Explosion On Yacht

A yachtsman needed hospital treatment following an explosion on his boat which was anchored off an island near Oban.

Oban lifeboat was launched following reports of an explosion on Thursday night. It is understood that the yachtsman escaped the badly damaged vessel and rowed himself ashore before travelling on to Oban hospital. He was later transferred to Glasgow for treatment.

British Man Killed In New Zealand
A British man has died in New Zealand after falling 2,000ft on a mountain. Police in New Zealand confirmed 31-year-old Robert Buckley, who was currently living in Christchurch, died while climbing to a hut on Mount Sefton in the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park on Saturday.

Seven people have been arrested in a series of dawn raids across Ashington, Northumbria. Officers executed a second strike at six addresses in the town on Thursday morning following on from a series of early morning raids on Monday.

Man Charged Over Fatal Shooting In Liverpool
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Garston, Liverpool on Tuesday night. Police were called to reports of a road accident between a car and a scrambler bike on Banks Road in Garston at about 20:45 last night. However, when police arrived at the scene they found an 18-year-old man with serious gunshot wounds.

Police Dig Up Pub Patio In Search For Missing Landlady
Police investigating the disappearance of a landlady in Cambridgeshire in 1997 are digging up the patio of her former pub. Deborah Steel, 37, was landlady of the Royal Standard in Ely, Cambridgeshire, when she disappeared on 28 December 1997. Police have said that Ms Steel's disappearance is now being treated as a murder investigation.

Second Man Arrested After Man Is Seriously Injured In Wolverhampton
Police investigating a disturbance outside a Wolverhampton pub that saw a car veer into a crowd of people, leaving one man seriously hurt, have arrested a second man. Officers were called to reports of a disorder outside The Rookery Tavern in Wood Street at 7.30pm Sunday 4th May.
