Appeal For 18 Unknown Hillsborough Witnesses

Operation Resolve and the families of Hillsborough victims are appealing or information on 18 key witnesses to the tragedy, they believe could offer new evidence to the inquest.

Sir John Goldring launched the appeal releasing images of the 18 people, believed to be two police officers, one steward and fifteen football fans, including at least one Nottingham Forest supporter.

It is understood that of some 6,500 witnesses interviewed to date, investigators have been unable to trace the 18 people captured on camera.

The 18 people are known to have helped assist victims on the day 96 Liverpool fans died in 1989.

Assistant Commissioner Jon Stoddart, who is leading the Operation Resolve investigation, said these people could help "bridge some of the gaps for the last movements of their loved ones".

"There are still many questions that the families of the 96 have and we believe that these people may be able to provide answers to some of those questions," Mr Stoddart added.

"Some of the deceased we know a significant amount about, others we know less and we are just trying to find out as much as we can about all 96."
