NI Health Minister Comments To Be Investigated By Police

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are to investigate comments made by NI Health Minister Jim Wells linking same-sex relationship and child abuse.

Mr Wells allegedly told a husting event that a child brought up by a gay couple was "far more likely to be abused and neglected...."

It is understood that the PSNI have received a complaint over the alleged comments, and officers are "making enquires".

Five Injured In Two Car Collision

Police in East Ayrshire have reported that five people have been injured in a two car collision in Hurlford.

The crash happened at about 00:25 on Friday morning on the A71 Galston Road, near East Holmes Farm in Hurlford.

It is understood that one vehicle, carrying three people, left the road and came to a halt at the bottom of an embankment.

The people are being treated at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock after fire crews cut them free from the vehicles.

Police Officers Deny Theft During Raid

An investigation has been launched into allegations that three police officers stole £30,000 during a raid.

It is alleged that the officers took "bundles of notes" from the home of a suspected criminal.

Former Det Sgt Stephen Phillips, 46, of Swansea, and PCs Christopher Evans, 37, of Llangennech, Carmarthenshire, and Michael Stokes, 34, from Glynneath, Neath Port Talbot, deny theft by a serving police officer.

They will appear at Cardiff Crown Court in June.

Black police officers' group slams DNA figures
A black police officers' group has called for an investigation into the national DNA database, after a report suggested that black people were over-represented on the system. According to research conducted by the 'Guardian' newspaper, 37% of all black men are included on the database, compared to 9% of white men.

Release Of Police Killer Described As 'Sickening'
The release of a man convicted of killing three unarmed police officers in 1966 has been described as "sickening". Harry Roberts, now aged 78, has been released from prison after serving 48 years for 1966 murders of three unarmed police officers in Shepherd's Bush in west London.
