Essex Police Investigated After Prisoner's Fingers Severed

The Essex Police Force is being investigated after a prisoner had three of his fingers severed while in custody.

The incident happened at Colchester Police Station on 1 May.

Three fingers on the 33-year-old man's left hand were severed at the tip during a scuffle with officers at the station.

The man was taken to hospital for his injuries.

It is understood seven officers are being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The IPCC will investigate claims the man was placed in handcuffs after his fingers were severed.

The commission will also follow up allegations there was a significant time delay before the man was taken to hospital.

The Essex force has not commented.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. Webcam chatroom death investigated
The death of a 42-year-old man is being investigated by police following an apparent suicide which was seen in a webcam chatroom. Police responded to an emergency call to an address near Telford in Shrophsire. It is reported that the man had hung himself, however this has not been confirmed. The man Kevin Whitrick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven Arrested On Suspicion Of Terrorist Fundraising
Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of terrorist financing offences, according to the Metropolitan Police. They were arrested at four separate addresses in London, Cardiff and Coventry at approximately 6am on suspicion of being concerned in the funding of a terrorist organisation, and laundering the proceeds of crime for that purpose.
