JCB Used To Steal ATM

Police have appealed for witnesses after a cash machine was stolen from a petrol station in Duckmanton using a JCB.

At about 4am, thieves used a JCB to demolish a wall containing the cash machine, taking away the entire ATM from the Midland Co-operative Food shop on Chesterfield Road.

It is thought that a white Vauxhall Vivaro van was used in the incident that had its roof cut off. The ATM and the van were found by officers this morning near to Buttermilk Lane.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Chesterfield CID on 101 quoting incident number 94 of July 17.

Fire Destroys Two Schools On Isle Of Wight

Fire has destroyed two schools on the Isle of Wight on the last day of term before the summer holidays.

Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue was called to the Island Learning Centre in Berry Hill, Lake, just after midnight.

Two schools are on the site - Clatterford Tuition Centre and Thompson House.

It is understood that fire fighters got the blaze under control but a review of the scene this morning has declared the schools "destroyed".

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Hospital Cancels Surgery Following Flood

All elective surgery has been cancelled at Addenbrooke Hospital following a flood.

Part of the building's basement, where sterilisation equipment is stored, has flooded following torrential rain.

It is understood that the hospital is working on new arrangements for those waiting on surgery.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

Chief Fire Officer Resigns Over Child Porn Arrest
A top fire officer for the West Midlands Fire Service has resigned after he was arrested on suspicion of making indecent images of children. West Midlands Police arrested Frank Sheehan, 55, yesterday at his home in Sutton Coldfield.
