CAA Releases Warning For Drone Pilots
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has released a warning on the safe use of drone hobby aircraft.
The launch of the 'Dronecode' by the CAA in conjunction with NATS and pilots union, BALPA, is due to a number of increased 'near miss' incidents involving domestic air traffic.
The CAA has said drone pilots could face prosecution by putting the safety of other aircraft at risk.
Tim Johnson said: "Drone users must understand that when taking to the skies they are entering one of the busiest areas of airspace in the world - a complex system that brings together all manner of aircraft including passenger aeroplanes, military jets, helicopters, gliders, light aircraft and now drones.
"When doing so, they must be aware of the rules and regulations for flying drones that are designed to keep all air users safe."
The safety guidelines of the 'Dronecode' include:
• Keep your drone within your line of sight and at a maximum height of 400ft high.
• Always fly your drone away from aircraft, helicopters, airports and airfields.
• Use common sense and fly safely.
The CAA has also welcomed moves by drone manufacturers to build in 'geo-fencing' capabilities into their products.
'Geo-fencing' prohibits drones from being flown into pre-programmed geographical areas, such as airport control zones. It can also set a limit on how high a device can fly.

Govt Redeploy Reaper Drones To Iraq
The government has confirmed that UK Reaper drones will be redeployed from Afghanistan to Iraq, to be used against Islamic State (IS) militants. The unmanned, armed, drones will provide surveillance support for the US-led coalition and Iraqi authorities. It follows a vote last month in which MPs backed air strikes against IS militants in Iraq.

Sailor Rescues From English Channel
A sailor has been rescued after almost 12 hours adrift in stormy seas in the English Channel. Two coastguard helicopters, a navy helicopter, a navy vessel, lifeboats and a French aircraft responded after the yachtsman sent a VHF radio message saying that his boat was at risk of capsizing.

Two Killed In Light Aircraft Crash
A pilot and a passenger have died in a light aircraft crash near Wymeswold in Leicester, police have confirmed. Police were called by the ambulance service at 7.55pm last night. Officers are working in conjunction with the Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) to investigate the cause of the crash.

Aircraft Maker Signs Contractors
Contracts have been awarded to two GB companies for work on Northern Ireland-based Bombardier's CSeries commercial aircraft programme. Representing a major investment by the Belfast aircraft engineering firm, the deal with GKN Aerospace will see it supplying the winglet for the CSeries aircraft from its composites centre on the Isle of Wight.
