Govt Business Advisors Urged To Protect British Workers
The government's Business Advisory Group has been urged to protect the rights of British workers in any renegotiations of the UK's membership of the EU.
The TUC have published an open letter addressed to 19 business leaders recently appointed to the Prime Minister's Business Advisory Group.
The TUC General Secretary, Frances O'Grady, said: "The terms of the EU renegotiation are vital to Britain's future, including that of working people whose jobs, rights and livelihoods depend on it.
"There is growing concern at reports that some in government and in the business community are seeking to restrict the rights working people have under EU laws, in particular the Working Time Directive and the Temporary Agency Workers Directive.
"I urge you to advise the Prime Minister that diluting people's rights to paid holidays, rest breaks and work-life balance would be a dangerous path to take.
"In the forthcoming referendum, the people who work for your companies need reasons to vote 'yes', and cutting back on their rights at work isn't going to convince anyone."
