Tests Reveal Durham Skeletons Were Scottish Soldiers

New analysis has concluded skeletons uncovered in a mass grave in Durham are 17th century Scottish soldiers.

Researchers at Durham University have concluded the skeletons are the remains of Scottish soldiers taken prisoner after the 1650 Battle of Dunbar.

The identification of the remains as the Dunbar prisoners was 'the only plausibly explanation' when scientific data was analysed alongside historical information.

Dr Andrew Millard, from Durham University's Department of Archaeology, said: "Taking into account the range of detailed scientific evidence we have now, alongside historical evidence from the time, the identification of the bodies as the Scottish soldiers from the Battle of Dunbar is the only plausible explanation."

Cardiff Bus Drivers Stage Strike Action

Drivers of Cardiff Bus are staging strike action in a dispute over pay.

Over 500 Unite members are taking industrial action after rejecting a 5% pay rise.

The series of 24 hour stoppages began on 2 September and will take place on 5 September, 23 September and 11 October.

Three 48 hour stoppages on 19 September, 1 October and 17 October are also planned.

Managing Director of Cardiff Bus, Cynthia Ogbonna, said: "We have already expressed our disappointment that some of our employees don’t think a 5% pay rise is enough. We believe we have made an excellent offer, which was accepted by our Unison members in July, but Unite have held out for more money, which we simply don’t have.

"We're still committed to getting a resolution on this as quickly as possible and will continue to keep the door open in the hope that a resolution can be achieved."
