Appeal For Help Identifying Man Suspected Of Assaulting Two 16-Year-Old Girls

West Midlands Police have appealed for help identifying a man suspected of sexually assaulting two 16-year-old girls.

The friends, both from the Black Country, were attacked on a path leading to Trinity Way tram station sometime between 22:00 and 23:15pm on Monday, 07 September.

"The friends waited for their 74 bus at the stop opposite the Desi Junction bar on High Street, said lead investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Sally Holmes.

"As they waited, a man appeared and started talking to them. He then picked-up one of the girls, put her over his shoulder and carried her down the High Street towards Trinity Road North before taking the path leading to the Trinity Way tram stop.

"Her friend followed the man as he carried the other girl. On the pathway both girls were sexually assaulted."

Police said that after the attack, the man walked off up Trinity Road North towards High Street while the girls called their family from Trinity Road. Relatives then called police and an investigation was immediately launched.

Trinity Way tram station was closed the day after the attack while forensic teams searched the area for clues before removing vital evidence for detailed analysis.

Specially trained police officers from West Midlands Police's Public Protection Unit have spoken to the girls and CCTV footage from cameras in the area is currently being reviewed.

The attacker is described as a tall, skinny, Asian man with a Black Country accent and who has short, thick, black hair and stubble.

"It's believed that there were people walking past when the attacks took place," added Dt Chief Insp Holmes.

"If you were on Trinity Way at the time of this assault and saw two white girls with an Asian male would you please come forward now. You may not have realised you were witnessing a serious double sexual assault. The information you hold may be critical to solving the investigation."

Anyone with information which may help detectives should call Det Chief Insp Holmes on 101. Information can also be passed on anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
