New Appeal Issued On Fifth Anniversary Of Colin Hughes Murder

A new appeal for information has been issued on the fifth anniversary of the murder of Colin Hughes.

Mr Hughes died as the result of injuries when he was stabbed at his home in Baden Road, Old Swan, on the morning of 21 September, 2010.

Ten people were arrested as part of the original investigation, but all were subsequently released without charge.

Marking the anniversary, Mr Colin's mother, Margaret, said: "My son Colin's death has had a profound effect on all his family. Myself, his brothers and his daughter Ellie, miss him greatly. It's hard to accept that his killers still walk free. Colin's father died last year broken hearted. I appeal that if anyone knows anything to please come forward and give us some closure."

Detective Inspector Mike Leyland said: "Five years after his death, we are still relentless in our search for Colin's killers.

"I understand that people are sometimes reluctant to come forward in the aftermath of such a serious crime as this. But, I'm hoping that the passing of time will enable people to search their consciences and find the courage to come forward to tell us what they know.

"We're now five years on from Colin's murder and people who were in the area at the time, now may be in a different situation to then, and feel that they are now in a position to talk to us.

"I am asking these people to cast their minds back to the days leading up to September 21, 2010 and to let us know if they remember anything unusual, or anyone acting suspiciously in the area. Any information, no matter how small could help us identify those responsible and bring them to justice."

Anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 0800 230 0600, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
