Death Of 17-Year-Old Treated As Murder

An investigation has been launched into the death of a 17-year-old boy in Brockley, south London.

Nassem Galleze died after a lump of concrete was thrown at a car he was travelling in. Police said his death is being treated as murder.

Police were called at 15:12hrs on Saturday, 26 September to reports of a fight on St Norbert Road, SE4.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended the scene and found Nassem - a rear passenger - in a Vauxhall Corsa that had collided with a lamppost.

Nassem was taken to a south London hospital in a critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 17:23.

A post-mortem examination held on Sunday, 27 September at Greenwich Mortuary found the cause of death to be multiple injuries, consistent with being in a road traffic collision.

Two other occupants of the car suffered minor injuries.

It is understood that Corsa the three men were travelling in was attacked while on the Turnham Estate. Police believe that as the car left the estate at speed a concrete block was thrown at it, smashing the windscreen and causing it to collide with a lamppost as it headed towards Loampit Vale.

Several passers-by rushed to Nassem's aid before paramedics arrived.Four men, aged between 19 and 23, were arrested on Sunday, 27 September, in connection with the investigation. They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

On Tuesday, 29 September, a further two men aged 19 and 22 were arrested; A request for further detention was granted on the evening of 30 September and the two men remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "Firstly I would like to hear from anyone who saw the mint green Vauxhall Corsa, on the Turnham Estate prior to the collision.

"Several people rushed to help Nassem and there are some who have yet to speak with police. We know the incident was also witnessed by other passers-by and residents in the area and again, we would encourage anyone who saw anything or has any information to come forward. Please do not assume that we already have the important information that you hold.

"We are keeping an open mind about the motive for this incident. Please do the right thing and be assured we will treat all information in the strictest confidence."

Anyone who can help should contact the incident room on 020 8785 8099 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
