Police Appeal After Attempted Robbery At Betting Shop

Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery at a betting shop in Lancashire.

The incident happened at approximately 11:50am on 04 October.

Two men entered a Betfred shop on Watling Street Road in Ribbleton and approached the counter, threatening a member of staff with a knife.

When the staff member refused to hand over any money, one of the men jumped over the counter and made further demands for money.

The member of staff managed to push the suspect back, before both men ran from the scene towards the local estate.

The first man is described as white and approximately 5ft 8in tall.

He was wearing a black shiny bomber jacket, dark blue jeans, a black shiny baseball cap and a black and white chequered scarf covering his face

The second man is described as approximately 5ft 3in tall and was dressed in black.

Hospital Waiting Lists Rise In Wales

New figures have shown the number of people waiting longer than nine months for hospital treatment in Wales has risen.

By the end of August, a total of 444,467 patients were waiting for the start of their treatment.

Of those patients, 84.3% had been waiting less than 26 weeks and 93.6% had been waiting less than 36 weeks from the date the referral letter was received in the hospital.

The Welsh government said the figures were "not acceptable" but said spending on health was up by 9% in two years.

Man Arrested Following Shooting In Manchester

A 21-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting in Manchester.

The incident happened at 11:20pm on Monday, 5 October.

Emergency services were called to a property on Coniston Avenue after reports of a shooting.

Officers discovered a 34-year-old man had been shot three times.

He was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

Police are appealing for information.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Man Arrested For 2002 Murder Of Becky Godden
Police investigating the disappearance of Becky Godden on December 2002, have arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of murder. Ms Godden was aged 20 when she disappeared in Swindon on 27 December. Her remains were found in 2011 on farmland in Gloucestershire.

Man Arrested Over Sexual Assault In Somerset
Police investigating a sexual assault in Somerset, during which a mother and child were tied up and held at knifepoint, have arrested a 59-year-old man. Police arrested the man on suspicion of aggravated burglary and sexual assault, in connection with the incident in Sydenham, Bridgewater on 21 January.

Investigation Launched Into Hotel Body Find
A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman's body in a Hull hotel room. Police said they were called to the Ibis hotel on Osborne Street at 13:00 on Sunday, where they discovered the body of a woman. She is yet t be identified.
