Police search CCTV footage in hit-and-run inquiry

Police in Scotland are examining CCTV footage in a bid to catch the hit-and-run killers of 10-year-old Edinburgh schoolboy Jack Anderson.

Jack was knocked down by a green Peugeot close to his home last Thursday afternoon. The car was initially spotted in St John's Road and was later abandoned at Saughton Prison.

The incident is being linked to four bogus caller crimes earlier that day and footage is being examined from shops, businesses, garages, councils and bus companies, as well as any privately owned companies.

The three men who abandoned the car are described as: white, 20 to 25 years, skinny build, 5ft 6 to 8ins tall with short mousey brown/dirty blond hair, brushed forward at the front and down at the sides, slightly prominent ears, drawn in cheeks, pale complexion, slightly pointed nose. He was also clean-shaven and was wearing a beige long-sleeved open-necked shirt with top two or three buttons undone, over plain straight-legged beige casual trousers; white, 25 to 30 years, medium build, 6ft tall, full face but not fat, pale complexion, with short black brushed back hair shorter at the sides and longer on top, possibly waxed or gelled with a low hairline. He was dressed all in black with three-quarter length smart wool style overcoat, black trousers, possibly black footwear; white, 20 to 25 years, skinny build, 5ft 6ins tall, wearing blue stonewashed jeans and a sky blue top.

Chief Inspector Euan Morrison, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "Closed circuit television is going to play a vital role in this complicated and detailed investigation.

"We already have seized numerous tapes from various premises which we are studying to try and identify these individuals.

"Over the coming days we will be obtaining more coverage which we hope will not only lead us to identifying the three men but also allow us to piece together their movements from the first bogus caller job in Dalkeith through to Saughton Prison.

"The timeline involved is over four hours and as you can imagine, this is an enormous task, but one we feel will be of great benefit to the inquiry."

Anyone with any CCTV footage which they believe may be relevant or any information is asked to contact police on: 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
