Former England footballers arrested over limo theft

Two former England footballers have been arrested on suspicion of the theft of a limousine, it has been reported.

Rob Lee, 38 and Warren Barton, 41, were arrested after police were called to Hackney Road in east London following reports of a car being stolen, around 11:30pm on Tuesday night.

The limousine - a Mercedes E220 saloon - was found abandoned on the same road, after having been involved in a collision with a van.

Lee and Barton, who both played for Newcastle United and are now retired from the game, were arrested later at two addresses in east London.

Scotland Yard have not confirmed the names of the men who have been arrested, but said that two men, aged 38 and 41, were being held over allegations of taking a vehicle and driving while unfit.

Scotland Yard also said that they were investigating reports that a satellite navigation system and a mobile phone were also stolen.
