Family Appeal For Glasgow Restaurant Killer To Come Forward

The family of a young woman murdered in a Glasgow restaurant has appealed for her killer to come forward.

Eleni Pachou, of Greek origin, was found in Di Maggio's pizzeria in Ruthven Lane in the city's west end at 8.20pm on Friday.

Eleni's father, Yiannis Pachos, 65, and her twenty-seven year old brother, Spiro, attended a press conference appealing for the killer to hand himself in.

Spiro, a student in Glasgow said: "All I can say to this person who deepened our family and friends in grief is to come forward with the truth and allow my family to mourn."

Police say the twenty-five-year old woman met a "violent death".

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Michael Feighan said that it was "a horrific murder on a lovely young woman who had everything to live for".

Police say that Eleni had worked in Britain since October 2006 and had worked from the Di Maggio group in Royal Exchange Square. She had been promoted and took up the position of trainee manageress in Di Maggio's in Ruthven Lane.

According to the police, Eleni took a phone call at the restaurant and staff believed she had arranged to meet the caller. So far this person has not been identified and police are urging the man or woman to come forward.

Eleni had planned to lock the premises when she left. Police have also revealed that a four-figure sum of money was stolen.

A spokesperson for the Strathclyde Police said: "We would particularly like to speak to staff and patrons of The Bothy Restaurant and Stravaigin Restaurant both situated in the lane. We would also include anyone who had been in either Paparino's restaurant, situated at the junction of Byres Road and Ruthven Lane or the Sub-way sandwich bar, on the corner adjacent to Paparino’s."

Police have not yet determined how the killer gained entry to the restaurant.

A Major Incident Advisory Group meeting (MAIG) is set to take place which will bring together experts in various fields to assist with the investigation.

In an unrelated incident, a woman who has been named as Moira Jones (40), was found dead in Queens Park on Thursday at 9.45am.

It is reported that her body was found partially clothed in undergrowth.
