New Potential Sites For Nuclear Power Stations Published
A list of eleven sites that could be potential hosts to new nuclear power stations in the UK is has been published. Members of the public now have a month to comment on the proposed sites before the nuclear planning consultation later this year.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change published the list after vetting all applications to ensure they were credible, that the sites could be operational by 2025 and that the nominator had raised public awareness of their intention to nominate.
The eleven sites are:
Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Department of Energy and Climate Change, said: "This is another important step towards a new generation of nuclear power stations. I want to listen to what people have to say about these nominations and I encourage people to log-on to our website, read the information and let us have their comments. We will consider this alongside the advice of our independent expert regulators.
"Later this year we will be running a consultation on the draft list of sites, so people will have further opportunities to have their say."

Centrica To Invest In EDF Nuclear Business In The UK
EDF Group and Centrica announced today that they have reached a definitive agreement whereby Centrica will invest in EDF's nuclear business in the UK. Centrica will acquire a 20% interest in British Energy, the operator of eight existing nuclear power stations of which EDF acquired control in January 2009.

Govt Nominate Forth Bridge For World Heritage Status
The Forth Bridge, which connects Edinburgh with Fife, has been nominated by the government for World Heritage status. Unesco will evaluate the bridge over an 18-month period, with a decision expected in 2015. The UK currently has 28 World Heritage sites, five of them in Scotland.

Call For Public To Nominate 'Red Tape' Cuts
People across the UK are being encouraged to nominate laws or regulations they want to see scrapped in a bid to cut bureaucracy. Today's announcement by the Business Secretary, Vince Cable, is part of a comprehensive package of measures to support the Government's drive to tackle unnecessary red tape.
