One Killed In Village Blast

One person has died following an explosion at a house in Warwickshire.

Fire crews who had been called out to a fire in the village of Ullenhall discovered the person at around 4pm on Thursday. The fire was extinguished by about 5.45pm.

No one else was injured in the fire.

A liquid petroleum gas cylinder in the garden was thought to be the cause of the blaze.

Three fire engines were despatched to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman: "On arrival at the scene, crews found a large fire at the rear of a property. While the fire was being fought a safety cordon had been set up by the fire service due to the ferocity and nature of the fire.

"Unfortunately, while extinguishing the fire a body of a person was found. It was quickly apparent that nothing could be done to save the person and they were confirmed dead at the scene.

"Ambulance personnel stayed on standby at the scene for the safety of fire service staff and were stood down at around 9pm."
