Emmerdale Star Cleared Of Sexual Assault

A former soap actor has been cleared of sexually assaulting a women in a nightclub.

Lewis Linford, 22, of Swanland in Hull, who played Lee Naylor in ITV soap Emmerdale until two months ago, was accused of assaulting the woman in December 2007 at the Pozition club in East Yorkshire.

The woman, who cannot be identified, told Hull Crown Court he had touched her and asked her for sex.

Mr Linford, who appeared in court under his real name Lewis Smales, was found not guilty by a jury of seven men and five women.

Roache Claims To Have Never Met Victims
The trial of William Roache has heard that the Coronation Street actor does not remember ever meeting any of his alleged victims. 81-year-old Roache is accused of two counts of rape and four of indecent assault against five women aged 16 or under between 1965 and 1971. He denies all charges.

UK sees 20% increase in multiple births over 10 years
Mothers are having 20% more multiple births than they were a decade ago, according to figures released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Statistics have revealed that in 2002, the multiple birth rate was 15 per 1,000 women giving birth, compared with 12.5 in 1992.

Max Clifford Pleads Not Guilty To Charges
PR consultant Max Clifford has pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of indecent assault. The 70-year-old appeared at Southwark Crown Court this morning. He faces charges relating to seven alleged victims, between the ages of 14 and 19, between 1966 and 1985. Speaking outside the court, Clifford said he was "totally innocent" of the allegations.

Former DJ Guilty Of Rape And Indecently Assaulting Young Girls
Former DJ Ray Teret, a friend of Jimmy Savile, has been found guilty of raping and indecently assaulting young girls. Teret, from Altrincham, was convicted of seven counts of rape and 11 counts of indecent assault throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

Arms Dealer Convicted Over Illegal Gun Deal
A UK arms dealer has been jailed for seven years for his part in a deal to ship thousands of AK47 assault rifles and millions of rounds of ammunition from China to Nigeria. 43-year-old Gary Hyde was sentenced at Southwark crown court in London after being convicted on two counts of breaching UK trade controls and concealing criminal property.
