Whether an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is at your workplace, sports venue or health clinic it is vital to maintain a regular schedule of service checks on the device. Not doing so risks death in an emergency situation.

An AED is like any other electronic device. It has a limited life span. Just because it may not been used since purchase does not mean it is in perfect working order. Moisture, dirt, exposure to chlorine in swimming pool environments, all of these can invisibly deteriorate your AED.

Defibrillator Services NI will check your AED throughly, repairing or replacing any faulty mechanism. According to The Annals of Emergency Medicine, 23% of AED failures are caused by battery issues. Besides performing a check on your AED’s battery, Defibrillator Services NI will also test the device’s Electrode Pads, the point of contact between AED and the patient.

It just makes sense to contact Defibrillator Services NI now and schedule a service appointment. We are conveniently located in Lisburn and are able to schedule an on-site inspection at a time convenient to you. If we detect a problem with your AED we can provide you with a temporary replacement while we repair your current device.

The Defibrillators
Defibrillator Services NI can both service and train staff on the use any AED found on the market today. Here is a brief run-down of some of the most popular models on the market:

  • HeartSine Samaritan AED
The Samaritan features an extra-large display displaying ECG data, heart rate, number of shocks delivered and a text version of any voice prompts given the device. As well, the Samaritan comes with its own data management software allowing for stored information to be downloaded to a PC.

  • Zoll AED Plus
Termed a ‘full rescue AED’ as it provides on-going feedback, the AED Plus also reinforces training through voice prompts as well as visual prompts. The M Series refers to Zoll’s emergency equipment including the AED Plus. This equipment includes mobile diagnostic and ECG equipment and the M-Series Defibrillator, a semi-automatic pacemaker monitoring unit.

  • Philips HeartStart AED
Philips HeartStart AED – HeartStart AED FR2+, XLT AED, MRX AED & OnSite AED models. This AED has a long-life 4 year consumer battery, the same kind as used in digital cameras. Its removable data card allows for a variety of reports to be generated, transmitted and/or printed without taking the AED out of service.

  • Medtronic LifePak
Medtronic manufactures two models of AEDs. The LifePak CR Plus AED is available in both semi-automatic and automatic versions. Both are capable of delivering a defibrillation shock if the device determines one is needed. The LifePak 500 has 2 and 3 button versions. The 2 buttons are an On switch and a Shock function, while the 3 button adds an Analyze function. Both the 2 and 3 button devices can record, store and transmit event data.

  • Cardiac Science PowerHeart AED
There are three different versions of the Cardiac Science Powerheart line of AEDs. The G3 Automatic eliminates the Shock button, instead delivering a shock as soon as its analysis determines one is required. The G3 Pro has a colour ECG display and a manual override, as well as multiple rescue capability along with continuous cardiac monitoring. The G3 model (with no further descriptives, unlike the Automatic or Pro) us Cardiac Science’s flagship unit, featuring voive prompts, a lighter weight than the others, and a 3 year replaceable battery.

  • Welch-Allyn AED
The principal difference between the two AEDs made by Welch Allyn are a larger display and a rechargeable battery with a charger station on the AED 20. The AED 10 has a charge time of less than 15 seconds.

  • DefibTech Lifeline AED
The only model of AED made by DefibTech, the Lifeline AED comes with a 7 year battery. Additional features include voice prompts, a text display and a removable data card capable of storing up to 12 hours of ECG and event data. The device also meets the US military’s shock-and-drop’ standard.

First aid training courses
Defibrillator Services NI is pleased to train staff and volunteers in essential First Aid techniques through our tailored First aid training courses. We offer two, four and six hour First Aid Courses.

Two Hour - Simple First Aid training Courses (choice of topics)
The subjects discussed can be agreed beforehand, or by questions from the group at the session.
This methodology is based on the assumption that if the group asks the question they will remember the answer.

Emergency Four Hour - Save a Life First Aid training Course
A full afternoon or evening session for any and all invited staff and volunteers.
The Four Hour Course can be custom-designed to reflect the specific needs of your organisation and the experience of the students. A question and answer session is included for any concerns not covered in the Course syllabus.

Six Hour - General First Aid training course
A full day Course split into two sections with a mid-session break.
By the end of it we will have trained your leaders and staff so they are completely prepared to efficiently and safely handle any and all common health emergencies.
Unusual variations such as poisons and pre-existing conditions are also covered.
