£100 million boost for Ulster Hospital
Health Minister Shaun Woodward has announced £100 million for the first phase of investment for the Ulster Hospital.
This money will provide seven new theatres, a 16-bed critical care unit, new laboratories and a sterile services department. In addition, a new state-of-the-art renal unit and maternity unit are currently being built.
Over the next 10 years, the investment will reach a total of £340 million.
Mr Woodward said: “I am excited to be rolling out this very large investment programme in the Ulster. This is a very exciting development for the population of North Down and Ards, East Belfast and Northern Ireland in general. These new facilities will provide state of the art accommodation for patients and staff.
“In addition to the new renal and maternity units which are already under construction, this further investment will enable us to develop seven new operating theatres, a 16-bed critical care unit, new laboratories and a new sterile services department.
Mr Woodward concluded by saying that he was committed to ensuring that patients would be put first in the healthcare system and he hope that the public will welcome this development and see it as his commitment to building world class services in Northern Ireland.

Farrans Healthcare and the architect for the huge project, Milligan Reside Larkin, in Newry - in association with P O'Hagan Architects - have this week marked the end of their work with the official opening of the new £9.

Four New Play Parks Announced For L'Derry
£2.8m from the Executive's Social Investment Fund is going toward four new play parks in L'Derry, The facilities will be located at Ballymagroarty Play Park, Kilfennan Valley Park, Ballyarnett Country Park and Daisyfield. Derry City Council has put up £300,000 towards the project.

£35M investment to cut waiting times
Health Minister Shaun Woodward has today revealed a new system to revolutionise hospital outpatient's services and cut down waiting times for patients. Mr Woodward referred to current waiting times as "appalling" and emphasised that there would be a "total transformation" in the current system.
