Uni Fees Too Dear?
Although the statistics appear to be confusing, the introduction of university tuition fees in Northern Ireland appears to be putting worrying numbers of potential undergraduates off.
A significant drop was recorded two years ago in first year students enrolments following on from the introduction of fees and while this hasn't continued in the most recent figures, which has seen a rise in Northern Ireland enrolments, a review has been ordered.
Employment and Learning Minister Sir Reg Empey, has ordered the study, beginning in September.
Mr Empey said more figures are needed before the impact of higher fees can be assessed.
"There is a range of factors which need to taken into account to explain the decrease in 2006/07," he said.
"All of these will certainly be investigated further during the review planned to commence in the next academic year."
