Arrest Follows Double Body Find

A 28-year-old man has been arrested by Kent Police investigating the discovery of the bodies of two women in a house in Birmingham.

It is understood he was held while trying to board a ferry in Dover.

Police have said the man may have been known to the women, who had lived together in the flat.

The women, both believed to be in their 20s, were found in a luxury apartment in Ryland Street, in the Ladywood area of the city at around 5.40pm on Monday. Detectives leading the investigation said the victims had suffered a "sustained and violent attack".

West Midlands Police had earlier sealed off Ryland Street, in Birmingham city centre while inquiries continue.

A spokesman said: "Police are investigating the deaths of two women who were found at an address in Ladywood just before 5.40pm yesterday.

"A forensics team is carrying out examinations at the premises. Post mortems will take place in due course. The identities of the victims are not being released at this stage. Officers are in touch with the next of kin."

Anyone with information have been urged to contact police on: 0845 113 5000 or via the confidential Crimestoppers line: 0800 555 111.
