McDaid Sons Released

Police have released two men being held in connection with the events that led to the brutal murder of Coleraine man Kevin McDaid, (pictured here).

The men, who were released without charge, are believed to be two of Mr McDaid's sons.

Officers investigating the circumstances of the May attack held the 22-year-old brothers for questioning yesterday.

Mr McDaid's sons - who have previously spoken to media about threats against their lives - were also questioned over the assault on Damien Fleming, who is also from the Heights estate.

He was seriously injured in the violence, which erupted following a contentious Rangers versus Celtic match.

It is believed a loyalist mob descended on prodominantely nationalist area, beating Catholic community worker and father-of-four Mr McDaid to death.

Community tensions have continued to escalate in the area following the trouble.

A number of houses have been attacked, and witnesses to the violence are said to be living in fear.
