Abducted Man Shot In Ardoyne

A 23-year-old man was shot last night after being abducted on Ardoyne Avenue, in north Belfast, writes Carla Liébana.

Police said he was bundled into a small red van by two men wearing balaclavas.

He was then driven to an entry off Highbury Gardens, where he was shot once in his right leg. His attackers then made off along Berwick Road.

The victim was later taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

SDLP North Belfast MLA Alban Maginness, the party's spokesperson on justice, condemned the shooting.

He said: "This is a retrospect step back to a time we want to leave behind. Nobody has the right to inflict any kind of physical harm on another individual.

"I hope those responsible are quickly brought to justice and a message is sent out to other still stuck in the past that they will go to jail for their actions," he stated.

The incident was reported shortly after 7.30pm.

Police have appealed to anyone with information about the case to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

Man Shot In Leg In North Belfast
A man has been shot in the leg in north Belfast. The incident happened in the Butler Walk area at around 10pm on Tuesday. The victim went to answer a knock at the door and before opening it he heard a loud bang and realised he had been shot in the leg. Man Shot In Face In North Belfast
A man has been shot in the face in north Belfast. The attack happened in St James Mews at around 9pm on Sunday. The police are treating it as attempted murder. Two men entered the property and assaulted the victim, The man, believed to be in his 50s, is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
