Derry Arsonists Condemned
An overnight arson attack could have caused multiple fatalities.
According to a senior fire officer, there could have been a "serious loss of life" in the arson attack on a block of flats in Londonderry.
More than 30 people were evacuated from the building at Kular Court in Little James Street after a fire started in a storeroom on Wednesday evening.
There were no injuries and residents have now been allowed to return home.
Mark Darryl from the Fire Service said the outcome could have been different had fire crews not responded so fast.
"It was only for the fact that we had a fire alarm system that worked and our crews were there very quickly and were able to get people out," he said.
SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey has also said the arson attack could have ended up as a multiple fatality investigation.
He said: "This could easily have been a multiple tragedy. The seriousness of this arson attack cannot be overstated.
"More than 30 people had to be evacuated. Imagine the tragedy that could have ensued. Unfortunately, we have seen in the recent past the destruction an arson attack can cause families in the north.
"This attack is totally perplexing. Only for the presence of a properly fitted smoke alarm we could have a huge loss of life.
"I must praise the quick and professional work of the fire service, which continues to work to the highest standard in this city. Unfortunately, they are called out to incidents such as this that they should never have to face.
"This was a heinous crime and every right-thinking person would condemn it without question. Whoever is responsible deserves to be delivered to the full power of the law and we must all help the police with any information that could be helpful," he concluded.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Mobile Classrooms Destroyed In Suspected Arson Attack
Five mobile classrooms have been destroyed in a suspected arson attack in Belfast. The incident happened in the Barrack Street area on Monday, 11 June. Police and the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended the scene and put out the blaze. Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused.

Fire injures five in Ballymurphy house blaze
A suspected arson attack on a house in west Belfast has injured five people. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at the house in Whitecliff Parade in the Ballymurphy area at around 1.30am. Four women were treated for the effects of smoke inhalation while a fifth person suffered leg injuries after jumping from a first floor window.

Fireman Hurt On Route To Derry 999 Call
A fireman has been seriously injured after the engine he was driving came under attack in Londonderry - but avoided crashing the speeding appliance. He was taken to hospital with glass in his eyes after the fire crew was responding to reports of a fire at a school on the Aileach Road. They came under attack and were pelted with bricks and bottles.
