Son Held In Lurgan Murder Probe

The discovery of a man's body in Co Armagh is being treated as murder the police have said.

The body was found in a house in the Mansefield area off Lurgan's Old Portadown Road at about 8.30pm on Thursday.

Detectives have launched a murder inquiry and a 35-year-old man has been arrested and is being questioned.

He is understood to be the victim's son, but no further details about the death or the victim have been released by the police at present.

Meanwhile, Gardaí investigating the murder of 78-year-old retired farmer Finbar Fahy have been operating checkpoints on roads in the area throughout the night.

Mr Fahy, who lived alone at Tullira near the village of Ardrahan, Co Galway, was found dead in the living room of his home Wednesday morning.

Gardaí say they still have not established a motive for the killing but it seems likely that he was beaten to death during an attempted robbery.

The results of a post-mortem examination carried out at Galway University Hospital showed that Mr Fahy died from blunt force trauma to the head.
