Bass Brewing Up Housing Boost
A multi-million pound deal is expected to result in a large number of new homes being built at an iconic site in the west of the city.
An application for planning permission for a 160-unit development on the old Bass Brewery site on the Glen Road is expected to be given the go-ahead before Christmas.
The planning permission is for a mixed-use regeneration scheme of 120 houses and 46 apartments on the site.
The Bass Brewery site is a scheme where a developer owns the site and approaches a housing association offering to build social houses in line with agreed housing standards - a basis for moving ahead that is thought to have been already agreed.
The Bass Brewery closed in 2004 with the loss of 85 jobs but later, in 2006, the owners, InBev, put eh site up for sale.
The NI Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie, is expected to be making an announcement about the development soon.

Housing Association Achieves Excellence
One of Northern Ireland's largest housing associations has been presented with its Customer Service Excellence Standard. Although he previously stepped aside temporarily from his post as the NI Policing Board Chairman - as police investigated allegations of wrongful practice - Big Picture Developments Ltd director Barry Gilligan has been given the go-ahead to build apartments at a controversial Nelson Street site in the north side of Belfast city centre.
