Cyber experts team up to resolve '.uk' disputes

In an effort to ensure that .uk domain name disputes are sorted out quickly and fairly, Nominet UK has appointed 37 cyber-savvy experts to its Dispute Resolution Service (DRS).

Emily Taylor, Nominet's in-house lawyer, said that of the original 800 original applicants, Nominet had been able to select a wide range of experts with experience in domain name issues and dispute resolution.

The DRS experts are assigned work on a taxi-rank basis and receive payment of £750 + VAT per case. In addition to an agreed timetable, all case decisions made by experts are published on Nominet's website.

Ms Taylor concluded: "Even though disputes represent less than 0.1 per cent of the 3 million-plus names in the .uk Registry, they are extremely important to those involved.

"I'm confident our experts will make the new service an objective and transparent method of rooting out the worse cases of abuse."
