Reserve Forces Meet

Murder Trial Moves Closer
The shamed dentist and his ex-lover who are jointly accused of murdering their respective partners almost 19 years ago have been sent for trial. Colin Howell, 51, and Hazel Stewart, 47, were told they had a case to answer by deputy District Judge Jim McFarland. They are due to appear again at Antrim Crown Court on May 11, but it is expected to be later this year before the trial goes ahead. The pair were charged again on Monday with murdering Howell's wife Lesley, 31, and Stewart's husband, police scenes of crime officer Constable Trevor Buchanan, 31, in May 1991. Their bodies were found in a car filled with exhaust fumes at a garage in Castlerock, Co Londonderry.
Mass Remembers Polish Victims
A special service has been held to remember those who died in a weekend plane crash which killed Polish Lech Kaczynski and his wife. Ninety-four others, including Polish military and civilian leaders, died in the crash in Russia on Saturday. Hundreds of members of Northern Ireland's polish community packed into St Anthony's Church on Sunday. The Mass was celebrated by Father Andrzej Kolaczkowski who ministers to Belfast's Polish community.
Firemen Save Residents
Ten people have been rescued from flats after a fire broke out in a bookmaker's shop beneath in Newry. The Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze in the four-storey building in Corn Market was already well-developed when crews arrived just after 3am. Five of those rescued from the flats are being treated for the effects of breathing in smoke.
Planemaker Lands Losses
East Belfast's Shorts has announced profits of $200,000 (£130,000) before tax for the year ending 31 January 2010. The figure is down from $87.9m (£57.1m)the previous year. The planemaker has blamed "the sharply deteriorating market conditions that resulted in reduced performance across all areas of the business". During the year Shorts' parent company Bombardier had to cut production rates and, therefore, jobs across all its sites.

Eleventh Night's Polish Flag-Burning Under Fire
A group that represents the Polish community in Northern Ireland has condemned the burning of Polish flags on Belfast bonfires on July 11. They described it as "racist intimidation" and said it could encourage hate crime directed at the 30,000 Poles living in Northern Ireland.

There is an increasing hardening of attitudes by both Protestants and Catholics towards living, working and learning together according to new research. The research conducted by the University of Ulster reveals that Protestants’ and Catholics’ perceptions of each other are becoming increasingly negative.

Over £1m Secured For Early Years Fund
Over £1 million in funding has been secured for the Early Years Fund. The Fund, which supports 153 early years organisations across Northern Ireland, will use the funding to ensure current services continue until March 2016. Education Minister John O'Dowd confirmed £1.1m in funding.

Polish Man's Appeal Rejected
A Polish man found guilty of murdering Shirley Finlay, 24, in Ballymena has failed in his appeal to have the murder conviction overturned. Henryk Gorski, 55, was found guilty in October 2009 of beating and strangling the young woman, and is serving at least 20 years in jail for the murder.
