'False Claims' Over Skeoge Slammed
There has been a call for an apology from a Sinn Féin councillor following comments he made about a housing development in Londonderry.
SDLP Foyle MLA, Mary Bradley was commenting on a claim by Tony Hassan who recently alleged that the Department of Social Development delayed the development at Skeoge in Derry.
"The claim made by Cllr Hassan that there is, or has been, a delay in the delivery of new housing at Skeoge is totally unfounded and untrue," said Ms Bradley.
"The Housing Minister Margaret Ritchie visited Derry in December to announce that Fold Housing Association had been given approval to start a new development of 124 homes at Skeoge.
"At that time, the Minister envisaged that work would commence as early as March this year and since then work has progressed without delay.
"A developer was on site in March and work has started on these new homes as planned."
She continued: "Work is expected to last for up to 15 months and following that the homes will be ready for allocation to those in greatest need.
"Cllr Hassan should get his facts right before publicly slandering the exceptional work of the Social Development Minister," she said.

A new campaign to raise awareness of the dangers for children online has been launched by the PSNI and the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland (SBNI), on Safer Internet Day, Tuesday 6th February 2024. According to the PSNI, online sexual offences against children are becoming an increasing crime type in Northern Ireland.
