Derry Bomb Probed

Police in Londonderry are investigating reports of an explosion outside a house at Dunmore Gardens in the Creggan area. A PSNI spokesperson said the blast was reported shortly before midnight on Tuesday. The area was cordoned off while a forensic examination of the scene was carried out. Police would like anyone who was in the area around midnight to contact them.

Dog Attack Fine

A west Belfast man has been fined £150 at Belfast Magistrates Court today after his dog attacked a 12-year-old boy. The court heard that on February 1, a Rottweiler-type dog, belonging to Gerard Quigley, from Divismore Park, attacked and injured a child on the same street. The prosecution was brought by Belfast City Council. Mr Quigley was also ordered to pay court costs of £66.

Ulster Weavers Goes East

Co Down-based Ulster Weavers has secured a contract to supply giftware to one of Singapore's leading hotel chains following a recent Invest Northern Ireland trade mission to South East Asia. The Holywood company is providing a range of products to the upmarket Fullerton Hotels for its international network of eight hotels. In addition, Ulster Weavers won business with the Parkson Retail Group in Kuala Lumpur, one of Asia's biggest department stores, and has also teamed up with Aussino and Air Asia to provide its kitchen textiles, PVC bags and giftware for sale through the airline's online shopping catalogue. Parkson is a mid to upper end department store operator, offering products such as clothing, electronic goods and cosmetics. The company operates under the Parkson and Xtra brands and has 45 outlets in 28 cities across China, as well as 35 in Malaysia and five in Vietnam.

NI For Montenegro

NI Soccer Team Manager, Nigel Worthington has revealed that the team will play Montenegro in an international friendly match on Wednesday August 11 in Podgorica. Montenegro is currently ranked 69th in the FIFA world rankings and in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, they finished 5th in Group 8 – a group which included Italy and the Republic of Ireland. This will be Northern Ireland's final preparation match before the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign kicks-off on Friday September 3 away to Slovenia.

Trade Body To Meet

InterTradeIreland will host its annual Economic Forum in the Belfast Harbour Commissioner's Office on Wednesday 28th April. The Forum offers a unique opportunity to discuss important regional economic issues in an international context. InterTradeIreland is holding this event to provide the opportunity for an invited audience from Ireland and Northern Ireland to hear from and discuss with international experts, the possible shape of recovery and the challenges and opportunities for the island.

Man Dies In Garda Custody

The office of the Garda Ombudsman is investigating the death of a man in Garda custody last night. It is understood the man died in Tallaght Garda station shortly after he was arrested in the Dublin suburb yesterday evening. It is believed Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy referred an incident to the office at 9.30pm. The incident was referred under section 102(1) of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, the spokesman said. Under this legislation, the Garda Commissioner must refer to the Ombudsman Commission any matter that appears to him to indicate "that the conduct of a member of the Garda Síochána may have resulted in the death of or serious harm to, a person".

Man Wanted In NI Arrested In Dublin
A 60-year-old man wanted in Northern Ireland for being unlawfully at large from prison has been arrested in Dublin. An Garda Siochana arrested the man on an extradition warrant from the PSNI, who sought the man in connection with a murder conviction from 1990.

bmi to concentrate services at Belfast City
bmi has announced that it is to discontinue its Heathrow service from Belfast International Airport (BIA) and concentrate resources in Belfast City Airport. However, bmi will maintain a presence at BAI as bmibaby will be including Belfast International as a destination to be served from a new UK base to be announced shortly.
