Bradley Welcomes Co Down Regeneration

Public works projects across Co Down have been welcomed.

Creating much-needed construction sector jobs as well as greatly enhancing the quality of life in the area, the works show NI Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie's commitment to the regeneration of South Down.

That's according to party colleague, the SDLP's South Down MLA PJ Bradley.

He said that he had sought confirmation from Minister Ritchie through a Ministerial question at Stormont that her department was committed to promoting the regeneration of South Down.

Mr Bradley said: "I was pleased to receive assurances from Margaret Ritchie that much good work has been earmarked for development in the area to compliment work already completed.

"In Warrenpoint for instance, a public realm scheme in Queen's Street has recently been completed at a cost of £500,000.

"The Minster has assured me that later this year; work will start on regeneration strategies for the South Down Coastal towns of Warrenpoint, Kilkeel and Newcastle."

He continued: "I particularly welcome the £1.3 million and £2.6 million that has been committed to significant environmental improvement schemes in Kilkeel and Downpatrick respectively.

"Both schemes will no doubt enhance the attractiveness of both locations as a visitor destination whilst truly enhancing the quality of life for local residents."
