Fund-Raiser Kicks-Off World Cup

NI soccer fans from East Antrim and greater Belfast are planning to cheer on the start of the World Cup in Ballyclare with a special fundraising night in aid of the IFA's official learning disability support charity Positive Futures.

Billed as a 'Night At The Riots' the on-screen race night is on Friday 11 June, organised by City of Belfast NI Supporters' Club (COBNISC), to mark the first day of the World Cup with a satellite TV screen on hand so football fans don't miss any of the opening action between Uruguay and France.

Held in support of IFA 'Going for Goal' charity Positive Futures - who support families and carers who have children with a learning disability throughout NI and also provide independent, supported living places for people with a learning disability - a prestigious auction will also be held.

Bidders will have the chance to leave with prizes including a ball signed by the Manchester United 2008/09 squad, including Ronaldo, Rooney, Giggs, Tevez and Ferguson. The ball comes complete with a certificate of authentication.

A range of other items including a signed Northern Ireland shirt will also be up for grabs.

City of Belfast COBNISC Chairman Kevin Mitchell explained that the event's attractions do not stop there: "As the event is being held in aid of Positive Futures, an official IFA charity, and being held in Ballyclare's Linfield club, we are hoping that some of the Northern Ireland and Linfield players and coaching staff will be able to make it along to show their support," he said.

Because City of Belfast NISC has a number of founder and existing members from both Ballyclare and Belfast, they'll be competing for the best 'culchies and townies' fancy dress, with guests more than welcome to join the fun.

The club, who have held a number of successful events in Belfast and Ballyclare including a Tribute to Terry Neill evening and popular race nights, are pleased to welcome back race organiser Jim Rainey who will be known to many NI fans as a superb host.

A raffle, karaoke and disco will also be held. Tickets are just £5, and are available when doors open at 7pm. The first on-screen 'riot' will start at 8pm.
