Victim's Ex Faces Murder Charges

A 55-year-old man, Joseph Alfred Haveron, 55, from Farm Lodge Grove in Greenisland, was today charged with murdering his former wife.

An application for bail at Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday on behalf of the former police officer was turned down when the court heard that the suspect took an overdose after the murder investigation began.

The victim, a 53-year-old nurse was found in her Huntingdale home almost a month ago. She had been strangled.

The same man was originally arrested and then released in the days following Mrs Haveron's murder.

The BBC has reported that a third party is said to have been threatened and that this was also given a reason for bail being refused.

Aer Lingus Issues Apology As Ashes Lost
Aer Lingus has issued an apology after the ashes belonging to the parents of a man originally from County Antrim went missing. Ballymena man Bob Gimour is reported to have travelled from Australia to Ireland with his family to scatter his parents' remains. When they arrived, however, the bag containing the ashes was not on the plane.

Man Attacked With Baseball Bats In North Belfast
A man has been left with a suspected broken leg after he was attacked with baseball bats in north Belfast. Police are investigating the incident, which occurred in the Hartwell Place area this morning, 15 August, as a suspected paramilitary style attack. Two masked men armed with baseball bats approached a man in his 30's at around 2.25am.

Concern For Missing Co Antrim Man
The family of a 48-year-old man missing from County Antrim are believed to be growing increasingly concerned for his whereabouts. Adrian Bamber from Ballyclare, was last seen driving in the Larne area at around 3pm on Wednesday afternoon, 14 August. He was driving a grey coloured Audi A4.
