Six Real IRA suspects remanded in custody
Six men have been remanded in custody charged with belonging to an illegal organisation following an appearance before Dublin’s Special Criminal Court.
The men were arrested following raids by Gardaí investigating the activities of dissident republicans in the Dundalk area of County Louth. A special armed detective unit of the Garda, detained the men under suspicion that they were members of the Real IRA.
The men were named as, Alan Brown (36), Niall Farrell (26) Dalton McKevitt (27), Vincent McKevitt (45) Tony O'Hare (42) and Eoin Quigley (30) in Dundalk on Sunday, January 6. The six men were remanded in custody until January 15.
A seventh man arrested during the raid was later released without charge.
A dissident republican group, the Real IRA were held responsible for one of the worst atrocities of the republican campaign waged in Northern Ireland, when a car bomb in Omagh in 1998 exploded killing 29 people. (SP)

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Lithuanian national in Co Tyrone in October. The body of Gediminas Stauskas, 32, was discovered in the Moor Road area in Coalisland. Two men, aged 27 and 41, have been detained in Dungannon. A 34-year-old man was also remanded in custody last week charged with the murder.

The men, Patrick Joseph Quinn, aged 17, from Whitecliff Parade, and Sean Paul Reid, 19, from Divismore Crescent, both Belfast, appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court in connection with an incident at Norfolk Drive in the west of the city on Monday. At around 12.

Two men were remanded in custody today charged with the murder of a man at a Belfast hostel last week. The body of Eric Atkinson, 41, was found at the Lee Hestia hostel in Brunswick Street in the early hours of Wednesday March 3. Only one of the men appeared at Belfast Magistrates' Court on Monday.
